இயேசுவின் திருஇதய பக்திக்கு தற்போதைய வடிவம் கொடுத்தவர் இவரே.
இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் திருஇருதயத்தால் அடையாளப்படுத்தப்பட்ட
கடவுளின் அன்பை உணர்த்துவதற்காக திருச்சபையை தூண்டுவதற்காக
கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவால் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டவர் இவரேயாவார்.
மார்கரெட் மரியா, கி.பி. 1647ம் ஆண்டு ஜூலை 22ம் தேதி
ஃபிரான்ஸ் நாட்டின் "பர்கண்டியில்" (Burgundy) உள்ள
"லாட்டகொர்" (L'Hautecour) என்ற இடத்தில் பிறந்தார். இவரது
பெற்றோர்கள் புண்ணிய வாழ்வில் சிறந்து விளங்கியவர்கள்.
"கிளாட்"மற்றும் ஃபிளிபெர்ட்" (Claude and Philiberte Lamyn
Alacoque), ஆகியோரின் ஒரே மகளான மார்கரெட், சிறு வயது முதலே
திவ்விய நற்கருணையில் இருக்கும் ஆண்டவர் இயேசுவின் மீது அதிக
பக்தி கொண்டிருந்தார். இயேசுவோடு அமைதியில் பேசுவது இவரது
வழக்கமாக இருந்தது. இவர் முடக்கு வாதத்தால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டபோது,
மரியன்னையின் உதவியால் குணமடைந்தார். இதற்கு நன்றியாக துறவற
சபை ஒன்றில் சேர்ந்து கன்னியராக விரும்பினார்.
கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவின் திருக்காட்சிகள் :
கி.பி. 1671ம் ஆண்டு, மே மாதம், 25ம் தேதி, மார்கரெட் தனது
24ம் வயதில் பரே நகரிலுள்ள விசிட்டேசன் (மினவுதல் அல்லது
சந்திப்பு) துறவற சபையில் இணைந்தார். அதே ஆண்டு ஆகஸ்ட் மாதம்,
25ம் தேதி தனது துறவற உடைகளைப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டார். 1672ம்
ஆண்டு, இவர் கன்னியருக்கான இறுதி வாக்குறுதிகளை உச்சரித்தார்.
அந்த துறவற மடத்தில் மார்கரெட் திவ்விய நற்கருணை முன்பாக அதிக
நேரம் செலவிட்டார். இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் பல காட்சிகளை காணும்
பேறு மார்கரெட் மரியாவுக்கு கிடைத்தது. பலமுறை இயேசுவின்
வேதனையுற்ற உருவத்தை இவர் காட்சியாக கண்டுள்ளார்.
கி.பி. 1673ம் ஆண்டு, டிசம்பர் மாதம், 27ம் தேதி, இயேசு
கிறிஸ்து அன்புத் தீ பற்றி எரியும் இதயத்துடன் முதல்முறை
மார்கரெட்டுக்கு காட்சி அளித்து, தனது திரு இதயத்தின்
பக்தியைப் பரப்பும் திருத்தூதராக இவரைத் தேர்ந்து கொண்டார்.
அதன் பிறகு பதினெட்டு மாதங்கள் வரை, இயேசு இவருக்கு பலமுறை
காட்சி அளித்தார். இயேசு இறப்பதற்கு முந்திய நாள் கெத்சமனித்
தோட்டத்தில் அனுபவித்த மரண வேதனையை நினைவுகூரும் வகையில்,
ஒவ்வொரு வியாழனும் இரவில் திருமணி ஆராதனை மேற்கொள்ளுமாறு இயேசு
இவரிடம் கூறினார்.
மார்கரெட், இயேசுவின் திருஇருதய பக்தியைப் பரப்ப ஆர்வமுடன்
உழைத்தார். மாதத்தின் முதல் வியாழக்கிழமை இரவு 11மணி முதல்
12மணி வரை நற்கருணை ஆராதனை செய்தல், முதல் வெள்ளிக்கிழமை
திருப்பலியில் பங்கேற்று திவ்விய நற்கருணை உட்கொள்ளுதல் போன்ற
பக்தி முயற்சிகளையும் இயேசு இவர் வழியாகக் கற்றுக்கொடுத்தார்.
இயேசுவின் திருவுடல், திருஇரத்தப் பெருவிழாவைத் தொடர்ந்து
வரும் வெள்ளிக்கிழமை அன்று இயேசுவின் திருஇதயப் பெருவிழா
கொண்டாடப்பட வேண்டுமென்றும் மார்கரெட் மூலம் இயேசு கிறிஸ்து
அறிவுறுத்தினார்.
தொடக்கத்தில் மார்கரெட் கண்ட காட்சிகளை நம்ப பலரும் மறுத்தனர்.
அவ்வேளையில் இவரது சபையின் ஒப்புரவாளராக இருந்த "புனிதர்
கிளாட் தெ லா கொலம்பியர்" (St. Claude de la Colombire),
இவரது காட்சிகளின் உண்மைத் தன்மையை முதன்முதலில் ஏற்று
அறிக்கையிட்டார். அதன்பின், இவரது சபையைச் சார்ந்த மற்ற
அருட்சகோதரிகள் அக்காட்சிகளை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டனர். கி.பி. 1686ம்
ஆண்டு, அந்த துறவற மடத்தில் தனிப்பட்ட விதத்தில் முதல்முறையாக
இயேசுவின் திருஇருதயத்திற்கு விழா கொண்டாடப்பட்டது, இரண்டு
ஆண்டுகளுக்கு பிறகு இயேசுவின் திருஇருதயத்தின் பெயரால் அங்கு
ஒரு சிற்றாலயமும் எழுப்பப்பட்டது.
புனிதர் பட்டம் :
கிறிஸ்துவைப் பலமுறை காண பேறுபெற்ற மார்கரெட் மரியா, அவரை
நிரந்தரமாகக் காண கி.பி. 1690ம் ஆண்டு, அக்டோபர் மாதம், 17ம்
தேதி விண்ணகம் சென்றார். திருஇதய பக்தி பற்றி மார்கரெட் எழுதிய
குறிப்புகள், கி.பி. 1698ம் ஆண்டு, ஜெ.க்ரோய்செட் என்பவரால்
இயேசுவின் திருஇதய பக்தி (La Devotion au Sacr-Coeur de
Jesus) என்ற பெயரில் புத்தகமாக வெளியிடப்பட்டன. கி.பி. 1824ம்
ஆண்டு, "திருத்தந்தை 12ம் லியோ" (Pope Leo XII) இவரை
வணக்கத்திற்குரியவர் என்று அறிவித்தார்.
மார்கரெட் இறந்து 140 ஆண்டுகள் கழித்து கி.பி.1830ம் ஆண்டு,
இவரது கல்லறை தோண்டப்பட்ட வேளையில், அழியாத நிலையில் இருந்த
மார்கரெட் மரியாவின் உடல் வெளியே எடுக்கப்பட்டது. அப்போது
இரண்டு அதிசயங்களும் நடைபெற்றன. கி.பி. 1864ம் ஆண்டு,
"திருத்தந்தை 9ம் பயஸ்" (Pope Pius IX) இவருக்கு முக்திபேறு
பட்டம் வழங்கினார்.
கி.பி. 1920ம் ஆண்டு "திருத்தந்தை 15ம் பெனடிக்ட்" (Pope
Benedict XV) இவருக்கு புனிதர் பட்டம் வழங்கினார். கி.பி.
1929ம் ஆண்டு, மார்கரெட் இறந்த அக்டோபர் 17ம் தேதியில் இவரது
நினைவைக் கொண்டாடும் வகையில் இவரது விழா இணைக்கப்பட்டது.
கி.பி. 1969ம் ஆண்டு, இவரது விழா அக்டோபர் 16ம் தேதிக்கு
மாற்றப்பட்டது.
கி.பி. 1928ம் ஆண்டு, "திருத்தந்தை 11ம் பயஸ்" (Pope Pius XI)
இரக்கமுள்ள மீட்பர் (Miserentissimus Redemptor) என்ற தனது
சுற்றுமடலில் மார்கரெட் மரியா கண்ட காட்சிகளை உறுதிசெய்யும்

குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்.

"நான் கனிவும் மனத்தாழ்மையும் உடையவன். ஆகவே என் நுகத்தை உங்கள்மேல்
ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு என்னிடம் கற்றுக்கொள்ளுங்கள். அப்பொழுது உங்கள்
உள்ளத்திற்கு இளைப்பாறுதல் கிடைக்கும். ஆம், என் நுகம் அழுத்தாது.

வாழ்க்கை வரலாறு
இன்று நாம் நினைவுகூரும் மார்கரேட் மரியா, பிரான்ஸ் நாட்டில்
உள்ள பர்கண்டி என்ற இடத்தில் 1647 ஆம் ஆண்டு பிறந்தார். இவருடைய
பெற்றோர் பக்தி நெறியிலும் புண்ணிய வாழ்விலும் சிறந்துவிளங்கியவர்கள்.
அதனால் இவரும் சிறு வயது முதலே பக்தி நெறியில் சிறந்து விளங்கத்
தொடங்கினார்.
மார்கரேட்டிற்கு எட்டு வயது நடக்கும்போது திடிரென இவருக்கு முடக்குவாதம்
ஏற்பட்டது. இந்த நேரத்தில் இவரும் இவருடைய பெற்றோரும் மரியன்னையை
வேண்டிக்கொள்ள, மார்கரேட்டிற்கு ஏற்பட்ட முடக்கவாத நோய் குணமாக
முற்றிலுமாகக் குணமானது. அதற்கு நன்றிக் கடனாக மார்கரேட் சந்திப்பு
துறவறசபையில் சேர்ந்து துறவியாக வாழத் தொடங்கினார்.
இவர் சிறுவதிலேயே நற்கருணை ஆண்டவர் மீது அளவுகடந்த பக்தி
கொண்டிருந்ததால், துறவற சபையில் சேர்ந்ததும் அது இன்னும் அதிகமானது.
தனிமையில் நற்கருணை ஆண்டவரிடம் பேசத் தொடங்கினார். அவரைக்
குறித்த காட்சிகளையும் காணத் தொடங்கினார். 1673 ஆம் ஆண்டு டிசம்பர்
27 ஆம் ஆண்டு, மார்கரேட் மரியா நற்கருணை ஆண்டவருக்கு முன்பாக
ஜெபித்துக்கொண்டிருக்கும்போது, ஆண்டவர் இயேசு அவருக்கு முன்பாகத்
தோன்றினார். அந்தக் காட்சியில் இயேசுவின் உடல் முழுவதும் காயங்கள்
அதிகமாகக் காணப்பட்டன. இயேசு மார்கரேட் மரியாவிடம், "உன்னை
நான் என்னுடைய திரு இருதய பக்தியை உலகமெங்கும் பரப்புவதற்கு ஒரு
கருவியாக ஏற்படுத்தியிருக்கின்றேன்" என்றார். அவரும் இதனை ஆண்டவரின்
திருவுளமென ஏற்றுக்கொண்டார்.
இதற்குப் பின்பு மார்கரேட் மரியா திரு இருதய ஆண்டவரைக்
குறித்து பதினெட்டு மாதங்கள் நிறைய காட்சிகளைக் கண்டார். அந்தக்
காட்சிகளை எல்லாம் அவர் அவருடைய சபைத் தலைவியிடமும் ஏனைய அருட்சகோதரிகளிடம்
எடுத்துச் சொன்னபோது, அவர்கள் இவரை "ஏமாற்றுப் பேர்வழி, பொய்யானவள்
என்று விமர்சிக்கத் தொடங்கினார்கள். இந்தச் சூழ்நிலையில்தான்
சபைக்கு ஆன்ம ஆலோசகராக இருந்த அருட்தந்தை கிளாட் லா கொலம்பியர்
என்பவர், மார்கரேட் மரியா கூறுவதில் இருக்கின்ற உண்மைத்தன்மையை
ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளச் சொன்னார். அன்று முதல் மார்கரேட் மரியா சொன்னதை
சபையில் இருந்த அனைவரும் நம்பத் தொடங்கினார்கள். திரு இருதய ஆண்டவர்
மார்கரேட் மரியாவிடம் சொன்னவாறே ஒவ்வொரு மாதத்தின் முதல்
வெள்ளியன்று நற்கருணை ஆராதனையும் ஒவ்வொரு வியாழன்று திருமணி ஆராதனையும்
செய்யத் தொடங்கினார்கள். அதே போன்று இயேசுவின் திருவுடல் திரு
இரத்தப் பெருவிழாவிற்கு அடுத்து வருகின்ற வெள்ளிகிழமை அன்று
திரு இருதய ஆண்டவருக்கு விழாவும் எடுக்கத் தொடங்கினார்கள். இப்படி
திரு இருதய ஆண்டவருக்கான பக்தி முயற்சி படிப்படியாகப் பரவத் தொடங்கியது.
இதன்பிறகு மார்கரேட் மரியா சபையின் துணைத் தலைவியாகவும் நவ கன்னிகைகளுக்கு
பயிற்றுவிப்பவராகவும் உயர்ந்தார். இப்படி அவருடைய நாட்கள் நகர்ந்துகொண்டிருக்க
அவர் 1690 ஆம் ஆண்டு இறையடி சேர்ந்தார். இவருக்கு 1920 ஆம் ஆண்டு
புனிதர் பட்டம் கொடுக்கப்பட்டது. இவர் இறந்து எழுபது ஆண்டுகள்
கழித்து திரு இருதய ஆண்டவருக்கான பக்தி முயற்சி திருத்தந்தை எட்டாம்
கிளமெண்டால் அங்கீகரிக்கப்பட்டது.
கற்றுக்கொள்ளவேண்டிய பாடம்
தூய மார்கரேட் மரியாவின் நினைவு நாளைக் கொண்டாடும் நாம், அவரிடமிருந்து
என்ன பாடத்தைக் கற்றுக்கொள்ளலாம் என்று சிந்தித்துப்
பார்ப்போம்.
தீர்ப்பிடாது வாழ்வோம்
தூய மார்கரேட் மரியாவின் வாழ்க்கை வரலாற்றை வாசித்துப்
பார்க்கின்றபோது அவரை அவருடைய சபை அருட்சகோதரிகள் உண்மை
தெரியாமேலே பொய்யானவள், ஏமாற்றுக்காரி என்றெல்லாம்
தீர்ப்பிட்டார்கள். பின்னர் உண்மையை உணர்ந்ததும் தங்களுடைய தவற்றிற்கு
மன்னிப்புக் கேட்டார்கள். நாமும் கூட பல நேரங்களில் மார்கரேட்
மரியாவின் சபை அருட்சகோதரிகள் போன்று ஒருவரைப் பற்றி முழுமையாக
அறிந்துகொள்ளாமல், இவர், இவள் இப்படித்தான் என்று

சிறுவன் ஒருவன் தேனிக்கள் தன்னை கொட்டிவிட்டது என்று
தேனிக்கூட்டதையே அழிக்கவேண்டும் என்று கங்கணம் கட்டிக்கொண்டு
அலைந்தான். இப்படிப்பட்ட நிலையில் தேனீக்களால் அருமையான தேன்
கிடைக்கின்றது என்று அவனுடைய தாய் அவனிடத்தில் எடுத்துச் சொன்னபோது,
தன்னுடைய தவற்றை நினைத்து வருந்தினான். நாமும் கூட இந்த சிறுவனைப்
போன்று. உண்மையை உணராமல் அல்லது ஒன்றைப் பற்றி பகுதியாகத்
தெரிந்துகொண்டு தீர்ப்பிடுகின்றோம். இந்நிலையையை நம்முடைய
வாழ்வில் மாற்றிக்கொண்டு தீர்ப்பிடாமல் இருப்பது நல்லது.

St. Margaret Mary and
the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Three streams, one love

Sometimes, the voice of a saint echoes clearly to us down
through the centuries. As a young adult, I found myself
struggling, in the ordinary way of young people, with
feeling alienated from God.
In a fit of teenage rebellion, I had told God to get out of
my life and leave me alone. Now, entangled in patterns of
sin that I was powerless to unravel, I needed Gods help but
didnt know how to get it. I didnt even know if it was
possible.
At this time, I was in the habit of running every evening.
Night after night, as the miles slid by, I tried
unsuccessfully to reason my way out of the guilt, sorrow,
and hopelessness I felt. I would even imagine ways God could
miraculously deliver meeven though I was never really
confident that he would.
One fragrant May evening as I ran, I passed a Visitation
convent whose parking lot was unexpectedly full. Inside, the
nuns and their guests were making a novena to the Sacred
Heart. I tiptoed in, thinking I would pray briefly.
Something there touched my heart, and for the next three
years, I attended that novenanine consecutive Friday
evenings of prayer each May and June. Outwardly, I said the
prayers; inwardly, I poured out my heart to the Lord. As I
did, Jesus began to soften and heal my hard heart.
He also poured out his heart to me, revealing his
inexpressibly tender love for me, a young woman who felt
hopelessly bound up in sin. No longer did I merely want to
resolve my difficulties, I began to have the wisdom and
ability to do so. A desire grew in me to love and serve God,
and he began to show me how.
Three Streams. I didnt know it then, but six hundred years
earlier, a young Visitation nun had written some words that
described my experience with the Sacred Heart almost exactly:
"Three streams flow ceaselessly from Jesus divine heart.
The first is a stream of mercy for sinners, giving them a
spirit of contrition and repentance. The second is a stream
of charity, which brings help to all in need, especially
those who seek perfection and need help overcoming
difficulties. The third is a stream of love and light, which
flows into those with whom our Lord wants to share his
knowledge and commandments so that they, each in their own
way, may devote themselves wholly to promoting his glory."
My heart positively leapt when I first read those wordssome
twenty-five years after my first novena!
The writer was Sister Margaret Mary Alacoque, a nun who
lived in the Visitation convent at Paray-le-Monial, France.
On the surface, Margaret Mary might strike us as a puzzling,
unappealing choice for the mission of spreading the good
news of Gods great love. She suffered incredibly throughout
her life, performed no miracles, and left no lengthy
writings. In some ways, she wasnt even a model nun.
Outwardly, her life offers little that one would want to
imitate.
But Margaret Mary was the perfect vessel for the Lord. Her
suffering taught her how to open herself to the three
streams of Gods love and channel that flow of love to
others. As she opened her heart, God filled her with a love
so compelling that she willingly embraced more suffering.
Her burning desire was that people everywhere would be saved
and that the whole world would respond to Jesus love.
Countercultural Witness. Margaret Mary Alacoque was born in
France in 1647, when the monarchy, under Louis XIV, was on
the verge of absolute power. She grew up during the age of
Richelieu and Cromwell, of Newton and Galileo. It was an age
of exploration and discovery: the Jamestown colony was
formed, and The Mayflower landed at Plymouth Rock. The
telescope and pocket watch were invented; champagne was
created, and ice cream was served for the first time.
However, in this bold, exciting age, love for Godand
knowledge of his lovehad grown cold. A strong current of
skepticism was at work in French society, undermining belief
in God and loyalty to the Church. Many who did believe were
influenced by the heresy of Jansenism, which taught that
human nature is depraved and that Jesus died to save only a
chosen few. The situation may have looked grim, but Gods
love never wanes. Out of this unpromising setting, he raised
up a compelling, countercultural witness to his love and
mercy.
Margaret Mary was a lively little girl who loved to play.
She was also extraordinarily aware of Gods presence and
love and would frequently steal away to pray. Sometime in
early childhood, she made a vow of perpetual chastity.
Commenting on this years later, she said that she had not
understood what the words "vow" and "chastity" meant! She
knew only that, in her awe for God, she felt "continually
urged" to say those words to him.
Her father died when she was eight, and relatives promptly
took over the estate. Margaret Mary was sent off to boarding
school, where she contracted an illness that left her unable
to walk for four years. All remedies having failed, Margaret
Mary consecrated herself to the Virgin Mary, vowing that if
she were cured, she would become one of Marys "daughters"
one day. Scarcely had she made the vow when she was healed.
Though Margaret Mary reveled in the pleasure of no longer
being bedridden, life at home had become truly miserable.
The relatives who had seized their home now tyrannized it,
treating her and her mother as servants. Margaret Mary
responded by immersing herself in prayer. "I spent the
nights as I had spent the days, shedding tears at the foot
of my crucifix," she said.
Quite understandably, Margaret Marys mother reacted by
begging her daughter to find a husband. That way, she
reasoned, she herself would have a place to live and escape
the relatives. In fact, Margaret Mary was attractive enough
to have had several suitors, despite having no dowry or
inheritance. She struggled intensely between wanting to
please her mother and wanting to live up to her earlier vows.
Heart Speaks to Heart. While Margaret Mary agonized over the
choice, she came to know, without entirely understanding it,
that God wanted to be the "absolute Master" of her heart.
She experienced his love as a "powerful goad" prompting her
to become his alone. "I therefore asked him to teach me and
to show me what he wanted me to do in order to please him."
God did show her, inspiring her to take care of the poor and
infirm, to dress their wounds, and to give away what food
and possessions she had. Just as her self-denial and
suffering at home taught her obedience, the love
she experienced from God aroused an "ardent desire" to
respond in kind. God was faithful and gentle with Margaret
Mary, frequently consoling and encouraging her when she
struggled against self-will. Eventually, she found the peace
to follow his voiceand the real desire of her heartinto
the convent at Paray-le-Monial.
Margaret Mary was not beloved there. The other sisters
viewed her as clumsy, stubborn, self-aggrandizing, and too
absent-minded to be any practical good. She found it
difficult to pray according to the orders established
format. At the same time, she spent all her leisure moments
before the Blessed Sacrament in the intimate conversation
with the Lord that she had always practiced.
There, in December 1673, she experienced Jesus opening his
heart and telling her of his love: "My heart is so inflamed
with love for human beings, and for you in particular, that
it must spread that love by means of you." Three similar
revelations followed over the next two years. Again, the
message focused on Jesus love: "Behold the heart that has
so loved!"
These extraordinary revelations left Margaret Mary "on fire
and inebriated" with divine love to such an extent that she
was unable to speak or sleep. But the more she experienced
Gods awesome fullness, it seems, the more scorn and
contempt she experienced from the sisters in her convent.
Patiently, always encouraging obedience to her superiors,
Jesus led Margaret Mary to revive and promote devotion to
his love. This she did by urging the other sisters to ponder
the love in Jesus heart. Whenever her strength or wisdom
flagged, Jesus reminded her, "I am a wise and learned
director who knows how to lead souls safely when they
abandon themselves to me and forget themselves."
The Fire of Gods Love. All that the Lord showed Margaret
Mary about his heart might never have become known had it
not been for a priest who spent a year in Paray as her
director. Father Claude de la Columbiere recognized the work
of God in Margaret Mary and encouraged her to write down
everything she thought the Lord was telling her.
Fr. de la Columbiere died in 1684. Two years later, a book
of his sermons was published, in which he mentioned Margaret
Marys revelations without specifically naming her. When
these sermons on the Sacred Heart were read in the convent,
the nuns got the message. The deceased priests
authoritative backing brought an end to their opposition,
and very quickly, Paray-le-Monial became the hub of a
devotion that spread rapidly to other Visitation convents
and then to the world.
Even as the devotion to the Sacred Heart spread, Margaret
Mary herself remained relatively unknown. Never vibrantly
healthy, she died in 1690 at forty-three, and wasnt
canonized until 1920. Undoubtedly, she would have preferred
to disappear completely in the radiance of Gods love.
By her humble, hidden life, Margaret Mary delivered an
invitation from God to a world that desperately needed to
hear itan invitation to know his love in a new and dynamic
way. This invitation is also for us, because in every
century, the human heart thirsts for Gods love. Devotion to
the Sacred Heart brings us face to face with the truth that
God loves us and delights in showering us with forgiveness
and mercy. Like any loving father, he will help us when we
struggle; he wants us for friends with whom he can share his
heart. All he asks is that we share our hearts with him.
As we do, the fire of his love is kindled in us. We
experience forgiveness and mercy, deliverance from
difficulties, new knowledge of God. We find ourselves, as I
did years ago, with a burning desire to love and serve him.

In 2012, the United Nations estimated that there were 7.2
billion people living on the Earth. And in an even more jaw-dropping
statistic, the Population Reference Bureau provided a
guesstimate in 2011 of how many people have ever lived on
earth since the beginning of time: 108 billion! Can you
imagine that before God created the world, in the midst of
these 108 billion people who would live in it, he knew you
perfectly and chose you to be with him?
When we hear that God chose us before the foundation of the
world, it can sound so theoretical. We think of "us" as a
universal group: Gods people, believers, followers of
Christ. And while we are all part of a large group of
believers, that doesnt mean were just anonymous members of
the crowd. No, our Fathers love for us is not generalized.
It is personal and specific for each of us. He loves you for
who you are. He loves you in the best way you can be loved.
Today, take the time to consider that before he made the
world, before time began, God thought of you and chose you
to be his child. Even if there have been 108 billion people
living on the earth, it doesnt matter. Youyes you, with
all your quirks and idiosyncrasieswere in the mind of God
and in his heart. He created you with a specific purpose,
and he longs for you to be with him forever!
Heres a great way to ponder this amazing truth: take
todays first reading, and wherever you see the word "us,"
substitute your name. For example, "Blessed be the God and
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed [your name]
in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavens, as
he chose [your name] in him, before the foundation of the
world, to be holy and without blemish before him." Reread it
slowly a couple of times. Proclaim it out loud. Let God
expand your understanding of how much he loves you. Then
bask in that love today.
"Father, my heart soars to know that I am in your heart!
Help me to receive your personal love today and every day!"
